Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen Features 39-Car Entry List At Halfway Point Of WeatherTech Championsh
All four IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship classes return to action for the first time since the Advance Auto Parts Sportscar Showdown at Circuit of The Americas on May 6 as the series makes its annual trek to the historic Watkins Glen International circuit for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on Sunday, July 2.
The race will be carried live on FOX Sports platforms, with three hours of television on FS1 beginning at 10 a.m. ET and a 3.5-hour telecast on FS2 starting at 1 p.m. ET. It will be streamed live in the U.S. in its entirety on the FOX Sports GO app with FS1 authentication, and also will be broadcast live from flag-to-flag on IMSA Radio via IMSA.com, RadioLeMans.com and SiriusXM Radio.
In addition to marking the halfway point of the 12-race WeatherTech Championship season, the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen also kicks off the second half for the four-race Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup.
The entry list for the Sahlen’s Hours of The Glen features a total of 40 cars spread among the four classes. The Prototype (P) class will have a 10-car field led by No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R co-drivers Jordan and Ricky Taylor, who have won all five races thus far in 2017 and lead both the WeatherTech Championship and Patrón Endurance Cup point standings.
In the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class, which features eight cars on the entry list, the No. 3 Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette C7.R shared by Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia lead the way on the strength of two victories from the season’s first four races. No. 912 Porsche GT Team Porsche 911 RSR co-drivers Patrick Pilet and Dirk Werner lead the Patrón Endurance Cup standings heading into Watkins Glen.
As is the case in the Prototype class, the Prototype Challenge (PC) class also is led by a team that has won every race this season, the No. 38 Performance Tech Motorsports ORECA FLM09, which features co-drivers James French, Patricio O’Ward and Kyle Masson. French and O’Ward lead the PC standings in the WeatherTech Championship and are joined by Masson in leading the Patrón Endurance Cup standings.
And in the GT Daytona (GTD) class, No. 33 Riley Motorsports-Team AMG co-drivers Ben Keating and Jeroen Bleekemolen lead the WeatherTech Championship standings with two victories and podium results in four of the class’ five races this season. They also lead the Patrón Endurance Cup standings along with their endurance teammate, Mario Farnbacher.
Practice for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen gets under way Friday, June 30, with the first of two, hour-long practice sessions starting at 11:05 a.m. ET. Friday’s second session starts at 3:30 p.m. ET
Saturday, July 1 opens with another WeatherTech Championship practice from 8 to 9 a.m. ET, followed by qualifying from 11:40 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. ET. Saturday’s schedule also includes the two-hour Continental Tire 120 At The Glen for the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge beginning at 2:25 p.m. ET.
The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen takes the green flag at 10:10 a.m. ET on Sunday, July 2. The weekend schedule also includes a doubleheader of combined races for the IMSA-sanctioned Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama, as well as the Lamborghini Super Trofeo and IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda each with a pair of races as well.
