RGR Sport Takes on Season Finale in Bahrain

RGR Sport has made it to the ninth and final round of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship season in Bahrain. The Mexican team will be fighting to maintain their second place position after the French team of Signatech Alpine clinched the top spot after their performance in Shanghai. RGR Sport’s battle for second will be with the Russian team of G-Drive Racing in the #26 Oreca Nissan.

The drivers and crew completed their journey around the 5.4 kilometer circuit on foot today before meeting for the weekends first team debrief. Tomorrow, Thursday the 17th, the drivers will have a few pit stop practices before jumping into their #43 Nissan Ligier JS P2 for Free Practice 1 at 15:00 and Free Practice 2 at 19:30 local time. The last practice session will be held the following day at 11:30 in the morning with Qualifying later at 17:30 in the afternoon.

Saturday, November 19th will mark the last race day of the season. As one of three races on the calendar that runs into the night, the green flag for the 6 Hours of Bahrain will not wave until 16:00 local time. By 22:00, the world will know how RGR Sport finished their inaugural year in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Team Owner/Driver - Ricardo Gonzalez

“First day of the race weekend here in Bahrain is pretty relaxed with the track walk and the team briefing. I’m happy we have made it to the end of the season. We come to Bahrain battling for second place with G-Drive who has put a lot of pressure on us. If they win this race we need to be in the top three spots, so it looks better for us than for them. We still need to get the work done!”

Driver - Bruno Senna

“I’m looking forward to this weekend even though it’s unfortunate that it’s our last race of the season. We finished on the podium again last race, which I think was a good effort from everybody with such tough conditions. We’ve done a lot of work between Shanghai and here to get more out of the car. I’m hoping we can start out in front this weekend and end our season on a high note. I’m looking forward to working with the team from now until Saturday to get the most out of our season.”

Driver - Filipe Albuquerque

“It’s the last year of the season, but this is my first time in Bahrain. I don’t know the track or the country, but this is the second track from the calendar that I did not know so I am hoping I can do as well here as I did in Fuji. We will push hard even though the championship title has been delivered to Alpine. Congratulations to them. We will be fighting to stay in second position, which will be a very honorable place for us. It will come down to us and G-Drive, who has won the last two races.”

Team Manager - Toni Calderon

“It’s hard to believe that we are coming up on the last race. This year has gone by so fast, but it’s very exciting because I think we can win here. It’s been a very strong year for us being in our first year as a team and I think we impressed everyone. Right away we proved that we were one of the teams to beat so now we are working to end our year on a high note, win here in Bahrain, finish second in the championship, and prepare for whatever may come next for RGR Sport.”
