RGR Sport by Morand, the only Mexican team entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, has arrived at one of the most historical circuits in history for the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. The LMP2 championship leading team will be racing amongst twenty-three entries, making it the largest category of the race.

Drivers Ricardo Gonzalez, Bruno Senna, and Filipe Albuquerque will take to the 14 kilometer track for the first official session of the week on Wednesday, June 15th for Free Practice 1. It is at this time that the team will make all final adjustments to the setup of the #43 Ligier JS P2 before heading into their qualifying sessions.

Although RGR Sport by Morand is a new team inthe FIA World Endurance Championship, the drivers and crew are all too familiar with this grueling race and all it entails. Team owner and driver, Ricardo Gonzalez won in this category back in 2013 and is looking to make history by being the only Mexican driver to win twice if the #43 Ligier JS P2 is the first to cross the finish line on June 19th. Gonzalez isn’t going into the fight alone as he is backed by teammates with experience. Bruno Senna has fought for the podium three times here and Filipe Albuquerque has had two good runs in the LMP1 category with Audi Sport.

Team Owner/Driver – Ricardo Gonzalez

“The Le Mans activities have begun here for the 2016 race with scruitineering yesterday, a lot of media interaction today, as well as work with our engineers and mechanics. The week starts pretty busy this way, but tomorrow we will have a little more fun with our first night session in the car.

Our test day here at Le Mans didn’t go as well as we had hoped, but we have been working on a lot of things and now we just need to see if the weather will help us out or not. Weather plays a very important role here at Le Mans so we are hoping to get some dry sessions tomorrow so we can continue developing the car.”

Driver – Bruno Senna

“It’s Tuesday of the Le Mans week and already we are experiencing some crazy weather which sounds like will be the theme of the next few days. The rest of the week will be interesting because myself, and the rest of the team have a lot of work to do to make sure the car is as good as possible for the race.

Tomorrow we will be driving for the first time and I’m really excited because it will be the first official session of the week. Here in Le Mans, there is no time to play, so we really have to nail everything from the beginning. I’m sure everyone is as motivated as me, so I’m looking forward to seeing how everything goes and I’m ready for the weekend to arrive.”

Driver – Filipe Albuquerque

“The weather here at Le Mans has already been very unstable with it being rainy one minute and sunny the next. It’s looking like it might stay this way until Friday, which is a shame for the fans at the parade. Who knows what it will end up being like for the race, but all that matters is that we can endure it.

Here, among the team, we are coming along well. It’s always a good time with Ricardo and Bruno and so far so good. We just learned a few things about the car in an effort to help out the mechanics if we need to. They just taught us how to remove the front and the rear of the car so it’s nice to be a little hands-on here today.”

Sporting Director – Toni Calderon

“We are very excited to finally get this week started. Obviously there is a lot of anticipation before we actually get on on track. We don’t know what the weather will do, but it is important for us to just stick to our plan and do what we need to do to make sure we have the best car possible for the race on Saturday.”
