The Le Mans test day serves as the final “pressure free” day for teams competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s premier event – the 24 Hours of Le Mans. RGR Sport by Morand, the only Mexican entrant of the historic race, went into the test day with the goal of finding the right set up for the car to not only endure the grueling race, but also to find as much speed as possible for a circuit that demands it.
The team was able to work through their test plan and provide the opportunity for the team to simulate long runs in the #43 Ligier JS P2. Each driver went out on track and got some seat time, regardless of the multiple yellow flags and less than ideal weather and track conditions.
The work will continue throughout the week and the activity will kick off on Monday the 13th of June with scruitineering at the plaza in the city center of Le Mans. A full week of festivities will ensue before the daring 24 Hours of Le Mans starts midday June 18th and finishing on the 19th.
Team Owner/Driver – Ricardo Gonzalez: “It was great to get back to Le Mans, I love this track and there's nothing like driving it in our RGR Sport by Morand LMP2 Ligier JS P2. The competition this year is very high at that showed at the test, so we definitely have to keep working hard and come back next week ready to fight for the win.”
Driver – Bruno Senna: “It was great to come back to Le Mans after missing it for one year, and the test day reassured what we knew all along: this is going to be a super tough race in the LMP2 class and we will have to do our very best if we want to be the winners! Challenge welcome!”
Driver – Filipe Albuquerque: “Although we didn’t get everything we wanted out of this test, next week we still have some time to work. We need to focus and rely on our base setup and pace that we have normally. If we start here then we should be fine for the race.”
Sporting Director – Toni Calderon: “It was good to finally get on track at Le Mans and get to work. Although we weren't able to get through our complete test plan due to some minor issues, we learned a lot and our technical director, Gautier Bouteiller, was able to work with Ricardo, Bruno and Filipe to improve the car quite a bit. There's still a lot of work to be done next week and we will stay focused on coming out of the race weekend with an extended lead in the championship."
