Flying Lizard Motorsports Finishes 1-2 at Porsche Club of America Season Opener

Last week at Sebring International Raceway, Flying Lizard Motorsports kicked off their second season in the Porsche Club of America, earning top honors with customer racers Andy Wilzoch and Chip Romer.

Romer and Wilzoch continued with the program after dominating most of the 2015 season, with Chip Romer finishing 1st overall and Andy Wilzoch finishing 2nd in the GTA2 class National Championship. The duo picked up where they left off last year, dominating all weekend at the PCA 48 Hours of Sebring. Romer returned with his 2012 Porsche GT3R, finishing the enduro event in 2nd position. Wilzoch debuted his new Porsche 991 GT3R, claiming top honors in the season opener.

"I'm excited to be part of the return of Porsche to Flying Lizard Motorsports that has brought so much success over the last decade," said a victorious Wilzoch. "After 15 years in PCA Club racing, it's time to step up the effort with the new GT3R and see if Darren and the Lizards can produce a winning combination of car and driver for the rest of the year."

"This was the best way to start off the season," said Program Manager Darren Law. "The goal this season is to not only expand our customer racing program in club events, but also work with Andy to take him to the next level and help him to step up to professional racing. We're going to continue to test and develop with his new 991GT3R, with the intention of making his professional debut later this season in the Pirelli World Challenge GTA class."

The team has also taken delivery of a new Porsche Cayman GT4 that will debut later this season in the Pirelli Porsche GT3 Cup, with driver Thomas Meyerhoffer. The series is the result of a combined relationship between Porsche Motorsports North America and Competent Motorsports. Meyerhoffer will run select races in the eight round season.

The Lizard's customer racing program continues to grow, and now the team also owns a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car available for lease for customers wanting to test, work on driver development and participate in club racing.

"This year, we have more cars racing in more series than before," said Law. "Our customers are continuing to develop, and our racing program continues to expand. Andy's victory at Sebring gives us great momentum to attack the rest of the season head on."
