Brembo, the world leader and acknowledged innovator of brake technology enters the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as the preferred brake for 35 of the 54 cars entered in the 54th Rolex 24 At Daytona on January 30-31. The Rolex 24 At Daytona is the ultimate test of man and machine. A classic twice-around the clock endurance race takes a toll on every race car component. Brembo brakes are built to endure the combined road course and tri-oval of Daytona International Speedway. Brembo BRP34 and BRP35 pads offer additional benefits that guarantee a high level of friction at working temperatures compared to other brake pads. This helps ensure prompt and steady pedal response. BRP34 was the first pad to complete a 24-hour race without needing to be changed. “The Rolex 24 At Daytona is one of the most prestigious racing events in the world,” said Dan Sandberg, president and chief executive officer, Brembo North America. “Having just celebrated our 40th year in motorsports, Brembo is looking to continue our racing and winning tradition this weekend at the Rolex 24. Brembo-equipped cars encompass more than half of the field proving that Brembo brakes are the preferred brakes of most sports car teams. Good luck to the teams, drivers and series for a successful 24 hour race.” Several teams equipped with Brembo rotors are using a special Brembo light-weight carbon-carbon compound, also used in INDYCAR and Formula 1. The benefits of carbon brakes are reduced weight, as much as a third of cast iron, and more reliability. In the Prototype class, Brembo will equip five of the prototypes, including the No. 10 Corvette DP of Wayne Taylor Racing, winner of the 2014 Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Of the 11 entrants in the GT Le Mans class, seven teams are using with Brembo braking systems. Similar to its racing counterparts, the Ford GT and Ferrari 488 GTB street machines are running with Brembo brakes. These race cars will be equipped with two-piece cast-iron racing discs with six-piston front and four-piston rear aluminum calipers. The GT brake system is essentially the same brakes used at Le Mans with lightweight, shape-optimized calipers with billet monobloc construction. All eight cars in the Prototype Challenge field will use Brembo brakes through the 2016 season. In the GT Daytona class, 15 teams are using Brembo brakes, including all five Lamborghini Huracáns GT3 teams of Change Racing, Paul Miller Racing, O’Gara Motorsports and Konrad Motorsport, which are competing for the first time in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. In 2015, Brembo celebrated its 40 year in motorsports. The Italian-based company supplied its first racing brake system to Ferrari in 1975 in the Formula One World Championship. Since then, the Italian company has invested heavily in research and development of highly innovative and technological products.
