It was a thrilling run for Justin Wilson at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Sunday when he and his Andretti Autosport team charged to a second place finish in the Honda 200 at the popular natural terrain road course nestled in Central Ohio. It was the best Verizon IndyCar Series result of the season for the Briton, who led six laps after starting the race from 14th on the grid. Wilson has run a limited schedule this year and will compete in the remainder of the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series championship for Andretti Autosport in the No. 25 Honda. “I just have to thank Andretti Autosport and Honda,” said Wilson, who last scored a podium finish at Houston in 2013. “They’ve given us fantastic equipment. The result is great, but I so badly wanted the win! Especially here at Mid-Ohio with so many great Honda fans supporting us. But it’s great for Honda today, a 1-2 finish. Congratulations to Graham (Rahal) and the Rahal team on their home track win.” Wilson opened the race from 14th on the grid and through a mix of shrewd strategy, flat out race pace, and some good fortune with the timing of full course cautions, he picked up his 12th IndyCar podium result. A late-race restart saw Wilson challenge for the lead as he went to the outside of the eventual race-winner Graham Rahal. “Graham (Rahal) was great on the brakes, there was just no way to beat him – he was a man possessed!” laughed Wilson following the race. “I was pushing hard. I had one push to pass left, and Graham was out of his. I knew he was going to go to the inside and I had to go to the outside. All the credit to Graham and the Rahal team. They did a fantastic job! I was close to being able to pull ahead there, but I know Graham is going for the championship and contact wasn’t an option. It’s great to get a good result here and continue to build toward next year and see what happens. Hopefully something will come together.” Wilson will target another solid performance at Pocono Raceway on August 23 when the Verizon IndyCar Series stages its penultimate round of the 2015 championship.
