After five days of intense practice, the time has come to qualify for the 99th Indianapolis 500. Gabby Chaves and the Bowers & Wilkins Castrol EDGE team have been among the top ten cars on the speed charts all week. On "Fast Friday", when the teams are given extra turbo boost for an additional 50 horsepower, Chaves was fourth fastest (without a draft). The format for this year's qualifying is a little different and should add even more excitement! Saturday, all 34 entries fight to secure a spot in the top 30 and more importantly the"Firestone Fast 9". Sunday, the times are wiped out and provisional qualifiers 31-33 (and anyone looking in from the outside) re-qualify for a spot on the final row. Following that, positions 10-30 are determined as all the cars in that group re-qualify. Finally, the Fast 9 fight it out for the pole and $100,000 prize that comes with it... Gabby Chaves Quote on Qualifying for Indy 500: "This weekend is about being comfortable when you're uncomfortable. Aero wise, the car is on edge the whole four laps and as the tires fall off that edge gets sharper... The BHA team and my engineers have given me a car capable of being in the Fast 9 shootout, and that's our goal for Saturday. Then our goal will be to come back Sunday and try and put it on the pole!"
