As previously announced in early 2015, Flying Lizard Motorsports has returned to their Porsche roots and will be fielding Porsche race cars this season as an expansion of their customer racing program. This week, the team will be traveling to the Circuit of the Americas, fielding a two car entry in PCA Club racing GTA2 class with an RSR and a GT3R Porsche.
Flying Lizard Motorsports began in 2004, and competed in the American Le Mans Series for ten years as a Porsche team, earning a cult-like following as the years progressed. Over that decade, the Porsche Factory supported team competed in the GTLM and GTC class, celebrating three team championships and three driver championships. The Lizards also competed at LeMans from 2005 to 2012, finishing in the top five on three occasions.
"We're happy to be running Porsches again," said Flying Lizard Motorsports Program Manager Darren Law. "We have such a history with Porsche and had many great years as the factory supported program in the American LeMans Series, we're glad to be continuing our involvement with the brand. The fans of course, will be thrilled, as we still have huge support from the Porsche fans and are still asked when a Flying Lizard Porsche will be on track again. Even though this is not a pro racing program we take everything we do seriously and expect to be racing at the front of the pack."
The Lizard involvement in PCA Club Racing this season will be comprised of six events, beginning at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Flying Lizard will enter Andy Wilzoch in a Porsche 997 GT3 RSR and Chip Romer in a Porsche 997 GT3R. Law will also be adding to his role of Program Manager by returning to his own roots as a driver, getting behind the wheel to test the cars and offer his expertise as a driver coach.
"I'm excited to be coaching and helping out Chip and Andy as part of our customer based program in Porsche Club. These are the cars I raced for Flying Lizard and I'm looking forward to coaching the guys, and helping with the set up and the data work."
